TSC Transfer: Teachers Service Commison (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has announced the transfer of several headteachers and deputies.

The transfer are set to start this December. The TSC boss said that only the sick and those about to retire will be spared.

The current transfers are expected to set the stage for the latest battle between teachers and their employer in Kenya.

Teachers have largely been opposed to the transfers which they say are discriminating and punitive.

In December, 2018, the commission transferred 3,094 teachers but only 360 appealed against the transfers. The appeals were considered and appropriate determinations made expeditiously based on the terms and conditions of service. “Replacement of teachers who exit service ensures that learners are not left un-attended due to exit of their previous teachers. The policy of the commission is to ensure continuity in teaching and learning process,” Macharia said.

In 2018, TSC announced that newly-recruited primary school teachers will be required to make a commitment to serve for at least five years in the counties where they are posted before they can seek a transfer to their preferred regions. “Applicants previously employed by the commission are required to provide details of their TSC number and reasons for the termination of their services before their consideration for employment. Said preference will be given to applicants who were not previously employed by the commission,” said TSC. TSC Transfer.
